Location: Brussels, Frankfurt, Madrid, or Paris (based in one of our EU offices - remote available too)

The Manager for Environmental Policy and Governance will be responsible for managing and advancing the organisation’s environmental governance and compliance agenda, with a particular focus on UK and EU legislation, including frameworks related to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Batteries, and Single Use Plastics (SUPs), as well as other circular economy priorities.
The successful candidate will support cross-functional collaboration, help operationalise sustainability initiatives, and contribute to the company’s overall environmental governance and policy agenda.
Environmental Policy & Governance Manager, the role
- Manage and maintain robust compliance programmes related to UK and EU regulations on EPR, WEEE, Batteries, and SUPs, ensuring legal obligations are met across applicable jurisdictions.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of filings, data reports, and regulatory documentation to UK authorities (e.g. the Environment Agency, SEPA, NRW, NIEA) and relevant EU bodies or compliance schemes.
- Represent the company in discussions with UK and EU regulatory bodies, trade associations, and industry groups, contributing to policy consultations and working groups.
- Lead the development and operational delivery of policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure ongoing compliance with environmental and circular economy regulations.
- Monitor and interpret changes in environmental legislation and policy trends, and proactively advise internal stakeholders on implications and required actions.
- Oversee the performance of cyclical economy initiatives and develop KPIs to track compliance effectiveness, programme performance, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Provide technical input and subject matter expertise to business functions on compliance-related matters, product stewardship, and resource efficiency initiatives.
- Develop training materials and deliver workshops to build awareness and capability on policy and compliance issues across the organisation.
- Work closely with sustainability, legal, product, procurement and operational teams to integrate governance requirements into business practices.
- Supervise and support junior staff, providing mentoring and quality oversight for day-to-day tasks and ongoing development.
- Draft and deliver internal and external reports, including compliance status, policy updates, and stakeholder briefings.
Environmental Policy & Governance Manager, the person
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Law, Engineering, Sustainability or a related field.
- Minimum 6–8 years of professional experience in environmental compliance, policy, or regulatory affairs, with at least 2 years in a people-management or team leadership capacity.
- Detailed understanding of UK and EU environmental regulations, including Packaging Waste Regulations, WEEE Directive, Batteries Directive, and Plastics-related legislation.
- Proven experience working with compliance schemes and regulatory bodies within the UK and/or EU context.
- Familiarity with international circular economy policy developments and compliance structures.

Desirable
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience engaging in EU-level environmental policy development, such as through trade bodies or consultation processes.
- Familiarity with developments under the EU Green Deal, UK Net Zero Strategy, and/or chemicals and eco-design regulations.
